Tummy time for an infant is vital to development and growth. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends 40-60 minutes of tummy time per day so babies can avoid flat head syndrome and torticollis and as a result develop core muscle strength, gross motor skills and fine motor skills. Many if not most babies dislike tummy time because it is uncomfortable. As a result, after much research, Pediatrician, Dr. Lisa Dana developed the patented Well Baby Tummy Time Mat. The comfort arch (provides optimal support), resistance ribs (provides firmness so babies can push themselves up), tactile surface (can help develop fine motor skills), and foot and toe resistance ribs (keep baby aligned and engaged) are all part of the ergonomics of the mat that allow for more comfort and a happier baby. According to research, babies who enjoy tummy time are more likely to scoot, sit and crawl on time.
Made from recyclable EVA material (foam) that is BPA free, Phthalte free, PVC free and formaldehyde free, the Tummy Time Mat is easy to clean as opposed to most other mats that are made from fabric and require more effort to clean. It is useful for babies up till about 6 months of age.
Last week, I received the Well Baby Tummy Time Mat to review. I really appreciate the generosity of Well Baby, so I could test out the mat on my newborn. As soon as I saw it, I was impressed by how soft it was and by its interesting design. My 2 week old daughter was completely content and happy when I put her on the Tummy Time Mat. She lasted for 10 minutes and then got fussy, but that was a long time for her in one stretch. The greatest thing was when she spit up on the mat, all I had to do was wipe it up. We have another activity mat and when she spit up on that one just the day before, all I could do was wipe up the excess spit up and then I had to put the whole mat in the wash. That is way more work than necessary for an all ready busy mom. I love the quick clean up, compact size and effective use of the Well Baby Tummy Time Mat.
If you are looking for a mat for your baby this is the one to buy! They currently have a promotion where you buy one and get one free (keep one at grandma’s house or gift the second one)…what a fantastic deal!
