Yoga for the Little Ones

My 2 young boys are so active and full of energy. It is great during the day but then getting them to settle down before bedtime is always a challenge. We have our routine which includes reading books but now that I found “Sleepy Little Yoga: a Toddler’s Sleepy Book of Yoga” by Rebecca Whitford, I may have to change things up. For ages 1 and up, Sleepy Little Yoga is the perfect introduction to yoga. With 9 easy poses that mimic animals, such as bats, owls, tired  bunnies and sleepy bees, your toddler can do the actions and in the process unwind for bed. This colorful picture book has explanations of the poses, photographs and tips for adults. Your child will enjoy the book because of the fun but relaxing animal poses. “Yoga can help bring a sense of calm, induce the relaxation response, and ensure a good night sleep for children and parents alike.

Another fantastic book is “Yawning Yoga: A Goodnight Book for Goodnight Sleep” by Laurie Jordan. For a little older kids, ages 3-6, Yawning Yoga is proven to work in helping your child sleep and settle down. Each page has a different exercise with an illustration and sleepy-themed rhyme. For parents, the index at the back explains the exercises and the benefits of doing them with photographs.
