Can vaccines prevent disease outbreaks?

This map, by the Global Health Program at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), shows all the diseases outbreaks that have occurred through out the world, since 2006, that could have been prevented by vaccines. Click on this link to see an interactive version of this map. The interactive version allows you to search by year, location, number of victims and type of disease.


The large green dots represent whooping cough. The US has has the biggest outbreak (which has included some deaths) of whooping cough and it is actually preventable with a vaccine. This is a very interesting way to understand that we can do something to stop these outbreaks.
