Kristin Cavallari Refuses to Vaccinate Her Children…Another Celebrity Jumps on the Bandwagon

Celebrity Kristin Cavallari and husband Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, have come out of the closet. Yesterday during an Kristin-Cavallari-vaccinationsinterview on the Fox Business Channel with host Lisa Kennedy Montgomery, Cavallari stated that she has not and will not vaccinate her 1 year old son. Cavallari, who is currently pregnant, will also not vaccinate her second son because of her fear of the link between autism and vaccines. Cavallari went as far to state that 1 in 88 boys are diagnosed with autism and then she started spewing other facts such as contemporary vaccines have higher levels of mercury than those in the past.

What Cavallari is not reading is that fact that recent studies have proven and shown that there is no link between autism and vaccines. The original study that showed the vaccine and autism link was published in 1998. The study and link was retracted in 2011 after it came out that the original study had many falsifications and was conducted with many errors. The unfortunate fact is that the damage was long done after 13 years. People are not willing to read the new studies and facts and just want to focus on the rise in autism rates. the problem is that the rise is partly due to increased awareness and diagnosis compared to even 10 or 20 years ago.

The really sad news is that there has been a significant rise in measles a whooping cough due to anti-vaxxers. This is a scary trend considering measles had almost been eradicated in the US. Just last week, health officials warned of a measles outbreak in New York City. This is so scary considering New York is so populated and measles is spread so easily, just through the air (breathing, coughing or sneezing). When are the anti-vaxxers going to realize that what they are doing is not fair to the general population.  I vaccinated my 3 kids on the recommended schedule by my pediatricians and my children are all healthy (read: no autism). I understand parents who have the desire to spread out the vaccine schedule instead of lumping them together but then to not vaccinate at all, that is where I have a problem.

Due the public outcry about her Fox Business interview, Kristin Cavallari has since stated:

“You know, it’s not something that I wanted to publicly come out and say… I was in an interview when it came up and it wasn’t what I was expecting….Listen, to each their own. I understand both sides of it. I’ve ready too many books about autism and there’s some scary statistics out there. It’s our personal choice, and, you know, if you’re really concerned about your kid get them vaccinated.”

What are your thoughts??
