I have said it before, I am not a movie critic, nor am I a movie buff but I appreciate a good movie when I have the patience to watch one. The hardest type of movie for me to watch are superhero or action flicks. Last night I was invited to an early screening of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and I went in thinking I would be bored out of my mine. Little did I realize that I would be captivated for 136 minutes. I have no background knowledge on the superheros or the story line prior (well technically I saw and enjoyed The Avengers in 2012) but I was still able to follow the movie really well.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the sequel to Marvel’s 2011 Captain America: The First Avenger. Directed by brothers, Anthony and Joe Russo and written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, The Winter Soldier is engaging, entertaining and full of action with a tiny iota of romance. With amazing special effects, carnage (PG-13), bits of humor, lots of fighting, the movie brings an almost real life plot to the superhero realm. The movie is made even better with a believable cast, Chris Evans (Captain America), Samuel L Jackson, Robert Redford, Scarlet Johansson and Anthony Mackie.
After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” finds Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy—the Winter Soldier.
Tip: When you think the movie is over and the credits start to roll, there will be a little preview by Director Joss Whedon from the Avengers sequel The Age of Ultron (May 2015). After the full line credits there will be another short scene by the Russo brothers, not as exciting as the first, but you might as well stay put for it.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a must see for Marvel fans, superhero fans. action lovers or just anyone who is up for a good movie! It opens in the US nationwide on Friday, April 4, 2014.
