In mid-February, Graco recalled 3.8 million car seats due to buckles getting stuck if liquids or juices harden in them. Well today Graco has expanded the recall to include an additional 403,000 car seats. These additional car seats have the same buckle so they can also get stuck by food and drinks, making it difficult to remove children in case of an emergency. In some cases, parents have had to cut harnesses to get their children out of the car seat.

Today, Graco voluntary recalled 3.7 million Toddler Car Seat and Harness Booster Seats that were manufactured from 2009 through July 2013. Through urging by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and product testing, Graco found that liquids and food that dry out on the harness can cause the buckles to become more difficult to open over time or just get stuck.

New Car Seat Regulations Proposed

Yesterday, the federal government proposed new crash test standards to protect children even more, when in car seats. Up until now, car seats have only been tested to see how well a child is protected from front collisions. The new proposal by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) would require car seats, protecting children up to 40 lbs (infant car seats), to be tested under side impact collisions.
